Liverpool Football Club Shirt History

2008 - 2009
We signed Robbie Keane in the summer and Fernando Torres won Euro 2008 with Spain.
2007 - 2008
Once again we finished fourth in the league. We had a tough game against Chelsea in the semi-finals of the European Cup against Chelsea who went on to lose to Man Utd in the final.
2006 - 2007
In 2006, we beat West Ham United in the FA Cup Final, a match that is regarded as one of the greatest FA Cup finals ever. Within 28 minutes we were two-nil down and it took us almost forty minutes to get bac level. The lead only lasted ten minutes, when Paul Konchesky's mishit cross caught Pepe Reina out, and once again Liverpool were trailing. By full time, cramp seemed to be affecting everyone on the pitch, and in added time, a 35 yard Gerrard volley saved us from defeat. At the end of extra time, Pepe Reina saved three penalties to win us our seventh FA Cup.
2004 - 2006
In 2005, Raphael Benitez took over as manager, and in his first season, took an unlikely team of outsiders on to beat AC Milan in the Champions League final in Istanbul. An epic match, by half time, Liverpool were 3-0 down, and the Milanese were already popping champagne corks in their dressing room. Then in the space of seven minutes, Steven Gerrard, Vladmir Smicer and Xabi Alonso scored to put us level. Shell-shocked Milan threw everything at us all the way through to the end of extra time, and in the penalty shootout, a legendary performance by Jerzy Dudek won us The European Cup for the fifth time.
2002 - 2004
The Anfield faithful were growing unhappy with Houllier and the lack of significant silverware, and in 2004, he left by mutual consent.
2001 - 2002
We finished second in the league this season.
2000 - 2001
Houlliers second full season in sole charge was one of our most succesful for some time, winning a treble of League Cup, FA Cup and UEFA Cup.
1998 - 2000
During the 98/99 season, ex French national coach Gerrard Houllier was brought in to work alongside Evans. It turned out to be a polite way of allowing Evans to leave with dignity, which he duly did in November 1998. The tradition of promotion from within had become outdated and ineffective, and Liverpool were keen to rejoin to the footballing elite.
1996 - 1998
1995 - 1996
1993 - 1995
Graeme Souness left in 1994, only having won us the a single FA Cup. In keeping with the backroom staff tradition, 'Boot room Boy' roy Evans took over. He was popular, but not inspirational.
1992 - 1993 Centenary Year
1991 - 1992
The Souness years were unsuccesful and he was arguably Liverpool's least popular manager of all time. He was heavily criticized for selling the story of his health problems to The Sun, which were published on the anniversary of the tragedy.
1989 - 1991
On April 15th 1989, 94 fans died in the Hillsborough stadium disaster, prompting government legislation to introduce all-seater stadia for top-flight clubs. This tragedy affected Kenny Dalglish greatly and in 1991 he retired, handing over to another Liverpool great, Graeme Souness. In his first season, he won The FA Cup.

1985
Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish took over in this year and became Liverpool's first ever player/manager. During his time, Liverpool won three league titles and two FA Cups.
1984 European Winners
In Joe Fagan's first season in charge, he brought Liverpool 3 trophies - The League Title, The League Cup and The European Cup. We were the first English team to do such a treble in a season.
1981 - 1984
In 1981 Bob Paisley won his third European Cup. During the 1983/84 season he retired after nine years in charge and 21 trophies, the most succesful manager of a British club to date. He was succeeded by his own assistant, Joe Fagan.
1979
1977 European Cup
We won our first Eupropean Cup this year, beating Borussia Monchengladbach 3-1. We also retained the league title won the year before and made it to the FA Cup final.
1974 FA Cup Winners
Bill Shankly retired, and his assistant Bob Paisley took over. In his first season in charge, we beat Newcastle United 3-0 in this final, two goals by Kevin Keegan and one by Steve Heighway.
1970
1965
This is the shirt we wore to win our first FA Cup in 1965. The following season, we won the league for a second time.
1960's
In 1962, Liverpool's third season under Bill Shankly, we won the second division and were promoted. Two seasons later, we won the league championship for the first time.
